Aug 19

Captain, Marcu (Sticks), and myself met and ate ate with Strider's family. They were very nice. We also spent some time just relaxing at their house. A couple of the kids, Strider and Marcus are in the photo.

Stider's Family and us thru-hikers

Aug 21

We slept in the garage of the Blue Mountain Dome Home.
Owners John and Linda allow hikers to stay here. The photo shows a walking stick on Captain's hand.

Aug 22

A ridge before Lehigh Gap has been polluted and ruined by Zinc mining. Everything looks like a wasteland now.

Overlooking Lehigh Gap

Aug 22

Despite both having very respectable families, my sister sent playboy magazines to torment us. We didn't carry them long. We got rid of them as soon as we finished reading the articles...if you
believe that.

Port Clinton Rail Road Station

Aug 24

We are sitting on what was going to be a power damn at the
Hertlein Campsite. Diving stright down into the coldest levels of the resivour was a lesson learned the hard way. Don't do it, deep mountain water is very cold.

Aug 24

These millipedes are cool. Wish we had them back in Michigan.

Aug 28

Stayed at the Duncannon Inn in Duncannon. We never saw so
many spiders, different breeds all over in and out of our room. This is the fire escape right outside our aracnid infested room.

Aug 28

Strted our day of hiking and just had to race this turtle. I don't
know if he finished the AT or not.

Aug 29

This interesting caterpillar would hunch up and had spots that looked like eyes to scare away preditors.

Aug 30

Finally reached the halfway marker at mile 1084.6 miles. We linked back up with Strider and Captain.

Aug 30

All four of us completed the Half Gallon Challenge in Pine Grove
Forest State Park at the camp store. The objective is to eat an
entire 1/2 gallon of ice cream. THink it's easy? Go ahead and give it your best shot. Stider took 30 min, Marcus 45, Me 1 hour, and Captain 1 hour and 15 min. The record was around 7 min.

Sept 1

Marcus and I hitched a ride with Mike Sanni. He let us stay at his place then took us to Gettysburg the next day to get a history lesson. Mike Sanni is an artist who has worked with
NASA projects for their poster, logos, and patch designs.

Civil war buriel site

Sept 1

Getting a history lesson (or an eye witness account) of the Battle of Gettysburg. The old man played his part very well.

Sept 1

Hanging out with Abe Lincoln

Sept 2

Another interesting caterpillar at Antietam Shelter.

Sept 3

We were expecting to see a rattle snake, but only came upon this Eastern Garter Snake.

Sept 3

Why does PA have so many wierd caterpillars? It must be a good climate for them.
